This Opportunity

We are seeking a candidate for a Sales & Business Development role, west of the Mississippi. This is a mid-level business development and sales role primarily responsible for growing business with existing businesses and secondarily with acquiring new business clients. The Sales & Business Development candidate will build strong relationships with prospective and existing Cascade utility and industrial sector clients, as well as industry partners, and provide input for the formulation of proposals for services. The ideal Sales & Business Development candidate will be responsible for closing sales and supporting the successful handoff of these sales to appropriate staff within Cascade for delivery of energy efficiency and decarbonization services.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Implement sales strategy as directed by the designated Director of Business Development to fulfill business development and sales targets.
  • Expand work with existing customers to include additional services, products, sites, or facility types. Many of these existing customers are industrial facilities that Cascade works with through utility programs where there are opportunities to serve that facility outside the utility program or to serve one of their peer facilities.
  • Prospect for new opportunities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Cascade Energy services, the energy efficiency services industry, and utility energy efficiency program offerings.
  • Effectively discuss the value of our software, Energy Sensei, including providing live demos of the software to prospective customers.
  • Increase company revenue by generating sales of energy efficiency and decarbonization services to utility and corporate customers throughout the North American market.
  • Support strategic alliances with partner companies to provide additional channels to market and enhance Cascade’s value proposition to industrial customers.
  • Identify new business opportunities for Cascade Energy within target market sectors designated by the Business Development Director as relevant to the Cascade Energy suite of services.
  • Work with the Customer Engagement and Market Development teams to build and implement marketing and sales activities that highlight Cascade services and successes to prospective customers.
  • Network with customer facing Cascade staff to convert industrial customers in Cascade-provided, utility-funded services into corporate-direct service customers.
  • Employ sales best practices and professionalism, including timely meeting follow ups, documented call reports into the CRM, team collaboration, and ongoing pipeline management.
  • Collaborate with Cascade’s Strategy and Products team to share insight on customer needs and pain points to assist in customer and product development around new Cascade services, including software and technology-oriented solutions.

This is a full-time, exempt role. We are currently looking to fill this role for a territory in the western United States. This position will be remote, but preference will be given to candidates near a Cascade office. Cascade is a strong supporter of flexible working arrangements, and all employees have the option to choose a hybrid work arrangement combining work from home and work in the office.

Travel for this position may be up to 30 days per year for in-person visitation with key business and association contacts and participation in key industry events, conferences, and meeting.

Qualifications

Applicants for this role are required to have:

  • 3-5 years of related business development experience and/or experience selling complex energy efficiency services to industrial customers
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving and negotiation with special emphasis on closing the sale
  • Software as a service sales experience a plus.
  • Project management experience, preferably in energy efficiency or related industry

A successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:

  • Established skills in sales and business development, including formal presentation skills before both small and large groups
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to execute a sales process in the industrial sector for professional services and software solutions, overcome typical barriers to this process, and apply techniques for working through these barriers
  • Ability to manage a pipeline of new business opportunities to exceed sales targets
  • Experience prospecting for new business in new clients
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in ambiguous situations
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to adeptly juggle multiple projects, program offerings, customers, deadlines, and demands
  • Proficiency in any of the following: energy management services, energy efficiency, ESG consulting, industrial engineering, technical consulting
  • Strong relationship-building abilities with both clients and internal teams
  • Advanced level knowledge of MS Office and the ability to quickly learn other software programs

Compensation & Benefits

Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits. These include health (90% paid for team member, 80% paid for dependents on HDHP plans and 85% paid for team member, 75% paid for dependents on PPO plans)), vision, FSA or HSA options with an employer contribution, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid parental leave, 401k retirement plan with a guaranteed 3% contribution, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), annual cash performance bonus, paid vacation, sick time, and an inclusive, flexible paid holiday policy.

The salary range for this position will be geographically adjusted depending on where the final candidate is based.  The salary (normalized for home office of Portland, OR) is $85,500 - $104,500 per year. However, final salary offered may vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experiences.
