ABOUT THE POSITION

Our exciting growth continues, and soon we will open a Northeast office to serve our clients and growing portfolio of work in our Northeast Territory. We are seeking a Territory Manager to join us and take a lead role in meeting the challenges in this area. The Territory Manager will assume responsibility for strategic planning and operations for all areas within the Northeast Territory. They will work closely with our VP of Territories to develop, execute, and monitor strategic planning. Additionally, the Territory Manager will work collaboratively with our VP of Customer Engagement to build and advance strong relationships with prospective and existing Cascade utility clients. This entails positioning Cascade to win work by gauging customer needs, formulating proposals for services, and winning and contracting the work. This position is responsible for supervising all activities, processes, systems, and procedures required to meet the mission and profitability goals of Cascade throughout the Northeast Territory.

The Territory Manager is also responsible for working to build and directly supervise the growing Northeast Territory Team, comprised of Program Managers, Project Engineers, SEM Coaches, Program Specialists, and Administrative Staff. Success in this role requires a management approach that is open, curious, and present amongst all team members.

This full time, exempt position will be based in our Northeast office and will report to the VP of Territories. We are currently determining the location for our Northeast office; potential locations include upstate NY (near Saratoga Springs) and the greater Boston area. Travel for this role is expected to be approximately 25%.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a multi-faceted role, tasked with the oversight of our Northeast Territory, including business development and the managing of deliverables, costs, and revenue stream, as follows:

Customer Engagement 

The Territory Manager is responsible for Northeast business development and sales efforts that will increase Cascade’s portfolio of utility clients, programs, and project work. This requires a commitment to the consultative sales model, in order to lead proposals, set pricing, negotiate contracts, and ensure a smooth transition of new work to the operations side of the role, with support from the VP of Territories and VP of Customer Operations. Collaboration with the VP of Customer Engagement is vital, in order to understand and execute Cascade’s business and marketing strategies, and for the continued development of Cascade strategic and product marketing – with a focus on tailoring and clearly articulating Cascade products and services for best-fit with the Northeast market.

Additional Customer Engagement functions include:

  • Ensure Cascade’s voice is heard by being the subject matter expert on high-level Northeast DSM policy and practices by actively engaging in the ongoing discussions between utilities, implementers, evaluators, and other stakeholders. Use this understanding to inform Cascade’s implementation strategy and keep Customer Engagement and Territory teams informed
  • Build and nurture lasting client, partner, contractor, and vendor relationships
  • Coordinate and contribute to the preparation and delivery of proposals, presentations, and negotiations in the acquisition of new work
  • Arrange partnerships and contracting arrangements with sub-contractors to increase Cascade’s ability to win and deliver on large contracts
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for key accounts, including goal and KPI setting, tracking, and reporting
  • Support Cascade’s work to weave DSM and Corporate relationships for the benefit of both sides of our business

Operations

The Territory Manager is responsible for the successful assignment and execution of work leading to desired customer outcomes, including work quality, energy savings goals, on-time delivery, contract compliance, and customer satisfaction. Client management is also an important part of this role, requiring the monitoring of Demand Side Management clients in order to continually gauge their motivations, support their changing needs, and adjust the program, design, and implementation accordingly.  Creating and maintaining successful relationships with key customers, effectively communicating all program services, and ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction are of utmost importance.   

The Territory Manager works closely with the Workload Coordinator, and other Territory Managers, to distribute workload throughout the company.  They will also partner with HR to identify staffing needs, identify top local talent, and recruit, interview, and hire staff. Close coordination with other Cascade offices is required in order to share, identify, and document our overall Project Engineering and Strategic Energy Management best practices throughout Cascade.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

For this role, we seek candidates with a track record of superior performance, including:

  • Understanding of, and strong relationships with, Northeast utilities, end users, and vendors
  • Experience managing people, systems, and complex contractual agreements
  • Familiarity with organizational development best practices, and the ability to manage a highly complex service organization
  • Experience developing, running, and managing a multi-million dollar annual budget-based program, and the financial acumen to understand Profit & Loss (P&L), cash flow, margin calculations, and other established standards of accounting and management
  • Strong communication skills, including excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills (English)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database reporting
  • Ability to adapt programs to changing and evolving circumstances
  • Ability to effectively communicate and develop work relationships at all levels within an organization, including the ability to effectively interact with highly technical people
  • Experience working with contractors and subcontractors
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, a technical customer support organization with a focus on data driven programs
  • Ability to manage deadlines and deliverables effectively in an environment of changing business requirements
  • Experience managing resources in a matrixed environment
  • Highly proficient at reviewing and interpreting data and conducting statistical analysis
  • Able to effectively organize and plan work tasks and simultaneously manage programs and projects to meet company goals
  • Proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated; good communication skills with the ability to achieve results
  • Strong ability to administratively self-support in a new territory, engage locally, and build staff  

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
This role requires a Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience with project and/or business management. Additionally, strong engineering analysis skills, using MS Excel, are required.

A high level of experience and familiarity with Northeast DSM programs is also required.

Candidates with a background in industrial energy efficiency, and experienced in the project management of capital projects in an industrial setting, are strongly preferred.

Additional, highly desirable experience includes:

  • A general knowledge of manufacturing processes and facility systems, including the energy aspects of common mechanical systems
  • Continuous improvement programs, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or ISO 50001
  • Project management, management coaching, and consulting roles

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits.
